24 April 2022 at Gally Gap Farm, Westow, York YO60 7LN

By kind permission of the Stephenson & Wardle families

A glorious sunny Sunday in a most beautiful part of the East Yorkshire Wolds – Gally Gap Farm, Westow – was the setting for the Vale of York Working Retriever Puppy, Novice and Veteran Gundog Working Tests which was extremely well supported by Vale of York members.

Our judges for the day were Philippa Williams, Paul Stogden, Eden Parish and Andrew Coates.

The morning commenced with the Puppy Test of which we had 12 entrants. The four tests were designed in the hope that all puppies taking part would achieve a positive outcome. In most cases this was the case. Spectators and competitors alike got to witness some great partnerships in the making. Well done to all those in the awards:

1st: Cardueae Emilia handled by Rebecca Thistle

2nd: Ffynongain Pearle handled by Sam Calvert

3rd: Abbottsmere High Flyer handled by Godfrey Lowe

4th: Feugera’s Uzuri handled by Tracey Dodds

COM: Arkglas Juniper of Ronorabrook handled by Tom Sagar

COM: Hollinhagg Panamera handled by Roger Kilty

Following lunch the day continued with a large Novice and Veteran field. This time the judges devised some challenging tests which caught out quite a few but it is hoped this didn’t stop everyone enjoying the day. Congratulations to all those in the awards – really well deserved – they were:

Novice

1st: Labdom Quinn handled by Jason Barnes

2nd: Allerthorpe Lady in Pink handled by Sarah White

3rd: Isle of Man Gypsy handled by Steve Townsend

4th: Questfleet Persephone Dee handled by Lucie Adkins

Veteran

1st: Isle of Man Cristen handled by Steve Townsend

2nd: Donascimento Danilo from Casblaidd handled by Caroline Hewison

3rd: Apollobay Beroccan handled by Trevor Linfoot

4th: Woodfinch Fortissimo handled by Paul Williams.

Our great appreciation and thanks go to the Stephenson and Wardle families, of which Mr and Mrs Stephenson attended – thank you. The raffle was a great success with all proceeds going to Howsham Parish Church.

Thank you so much to the judges – Philippa, Paul, Eden and Andrew – for giving your Sunday over to the Club and putting on some great tests.

Of course, none of this would be able to go ahead without the massive help and support received from all dummy throwers, helpers, members, competitors and not forgetting our sponsors for the day Skinners Pet Foods Ltd. Teresa and I were overwhelmed with all the offers of help received throughout the day.

What better way to spend a Sunday. Thanks again to all...

Lucy Eggleston & Teresa Middlewood
